Bookings Soar for Galway Races

Travel interest to Galway has increased by 56% for next week’s Galway Races, according to hotel search website trivago.ie.

Hotel searches made by Irish holidaymakers for a hotel stay during the week of the festival (27th July to 2nd August) were compared to searches made for a hotel stay during the week before (20th July to 27th July). The data is based on searches made during a six month period from 21 January to 21 July

EDEN Award for Burren Food Trail

The Burren Food Trail was today honoured as the Irish winner of the 2015 EDEN (European Destination of Excellence) Award for developing a tourism offering based on their local gastronomy that balances sustaining the local environment with the promotion of viable tourism. 

The EDEN award was officially presented by the Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Michael Ring TD, at a ceremony in the Doolin Hotel, Doolin, Co. Clare.

This EU-wide EDEN competition, which is themed differently every two years, is designed to encourage and promote a more sustainable form of tourism development and The Burren Food Trail was one of four destinations shortlisted under this year’s Tourism and Local Gastronomy theme. The three runner-up destinations were Cong Food Village, Mayo; the ‘Wild Atlantic Way So Sligo Food Trail’; and the West Waterford region.

Hotel company reports €20m loss

Operating profits at the company  that operates the Regency Hotel in Dublin more than doubled, last year, to €1m.

However, new accounts show that the hotel firm, Regan Developments Ltd recorded a pre-tax loss of €20.7m after booking a €21m exceptional cost.

The hotel is located in the Whitehall area of Dublin and lies in close proximity to Dublin airport.

 

€1m Upgrade at Imperial

The Imperial Hotel in Cork has undergone a renovation programme which has seen almost €1 million being spent on the hotel. There is now a brand new bar, a new gym and over half the 125 bedrooms have been completely redesigned.

Free WiFi for Cork Visitors

Cork City is set to roll out the second phase of its free city centre wifi as part of a new campaign to promote the location to tourists.

Stakeholders in the tourism and hospitality industry will today attend an event hosted by Cork City Council, whereguests  will get an overview of the local authority’s tourism marketing strategy for Cork.

The launch of the second phase of the city’s free wifi programme is one of a number of initiatives due to be unveiled this evening, including the city’s dedicated tourism website, www.cork.ie.
