Dutch Treat

  A lucky couple from the Netherlands flew to Northern Ireland, after winning a competition in the inflight magazine of Dutch airline KLM.


Pictured are  prizewinners Martijn van den Broek and Margot den Dulk in Belfast Cookery School, where they took part in a 'bake off'' cookery class. 
Tourism Ireland teamed up with KLM and Visit Belfast to run the competition – to promote the new KLM flight from Amsterdam to Belfast and grow tourist numbers – offering readers on board KLM flights the chance to win a five-day visit to Northern Ireland.

Clare Greenway Progress

Clare County Council has announced that works have commenced on the Phase 1 Contract 1 of the West Clare Railway Greenway project, a 42-kilometre cycling and walking route linking Ennis to Lahinch, via Corofin and Ennistymon, along the route of the dismantled West Clare Railway.
 Phase One Contract 1 will see the construction of a 3-kilometre cycle and walking track linking Ennis town centre at the Wood Quay Car Park to the townland of Ballymaquiggin, via Mill Road, Circular Road, Lahinch Road, Drumcliffe Road and Active Ennis Sports & Amenity Park Lees Road.

Ryanair Profit Jump

Ryanair  profits jumped by 25pc to €245m in the first quarter of its financial year, according to new figures from the company.


This compared to an after tax profit of just under €200m in the corresponding period in 2014.

Revenue at the airline was up by 10pc, from just under €1.5bn to €1.65bn, while earnings per share increased from


cent to 17.90 cent.

The number of customers who travelled with the carrier was up by 16pc, from 24.3m in the first quarter of the financial year in 2014 to 28m.

The airline also upped its traffic target for the 2016 financial year from 100m passengers to 103m.

Tourism Towns Shortlist

Failte Ireland has published a short list of 15 finalists in its Touristm Towns competition. The towns which will be visted by adjudicators over the next few weeks are Kilkenny, Lismore, Killarney,Clonakilty, Belmullet, Ardmore, Tralee, Adare, Sneem,Carrick on Shannon, Kenmare,Portmagee, Cobh, Youghal and Mountshannon.

Two Hotels for Sale

Jacksons Hotel, Ballybofey, Co. Donegal is for sale with an asking price of €2,3m.

The 138 bedroom four star hotel has a large conferebce centre and a leisure centre with swimming pool.

The sale is being handled by DTZ Sherry Fitzgerald which is also selling the Cedars Hotel in Rosslare. This 34 bedroom three star hotel has ceased trading and is being offered with vacant possession with an asking price of €700,000
