Four Irish charities benefited from the fundraising efforts of Sodexo staff throughout Ireland. Account director Billy Perkins handed over cheques for €5,000 each to Amy Collins of Focus Ireland; Gearoid McKendrick, St. Vincent de Paul, Aisling Andrews, Barnardos and Mary Anne Sweeney, Irish Cancer Society.

The monies were raised from a multitude of activities that included cake sales, 10k runs and bag packing. One of the main fundraisers was the Stop Hunger Bake Sale that took place simultaneously in multiple site locations throughout Ireland on Friday 24^th April to coincide with the Stop Hunger initiative across the Sodexo world.

Green Light for Red Cow

Hotelier Tom Moran has been given perimission to build a large new extension to his Red Cow Hotel on the Naas Road, Dublin.

He retained the hotel when his Bewleys Hotels were sold to Dalata earlier this year.

The new five storey block will include close on 100 guestrooms, a banqueting suite and restaurant.

It will attract a South County Dublin County Council development levy of €426,000

Cruise Flotilla at Dublin

Dublin Port welcomed four luxury cruise liners within a four-hour window this morning, mak

ing it the city's biggest-ever day for cruise tourism.

Between them, the four ships are carrying over 13,000 passengers and crew, bringing an estimated windfall of €1.3 million to the city, Dublin Port Company says.

Tourism Ireland Meets in Kilkenny

The Kilkenny Ormonde Hotel was the venue for the July board meeting of Tourism Ireland,.

he board members took the opportunity to meet with local tourism operators prior to the meeting, to discuss the tourism season and the extensive promotional programme which Tourism Ireland is undertaking to highlight Kilkenny, the South East and the island of Ireland around the world this year.

Bookings Soar for Galway Races

Travel interest to Galway has increased by 56% for next week’s Galway Races, according to hotel search website trivago.ie.

Hotel searches made by Irish holidaymakers for a hotel stay during the week of the festival (27th July to 2nd August) were compared to searches made for a hotel stay during the week before (20th July to 27th July). The data is based on searches made during a six month period from 21 January to 21 July
