Killarney is Cleanest Town

Killarney has been rated as 'Cleanest Town in Ireland' in the latest Irish Business Against Litter' survey conducted by An Taisce.

It was followed in the ratings by Dungarvan and Tralee.

Sixteen areas exceeded the European norm and a further 14 achieved this standard.

Galway City and Tallagjt were rated as 'moderaely littered'

Galway is 'Friendliest City'

Galway has been voted 'Friendliest City' by readers of  'Travel and Leisure' magazine.



The 'Top 10 Friendliest Cities' list is:

1.    Galway

2.    Charleston, North Carolina

3.    Dublin

4.    Cork

5.    Siem Reap, Cambodia

6.    Auckland, New Zealand

Dublin on Awards Shortlist

Dublin has been shortlisted at this year’s C&IT (Conferencing and Incentive Travel) Awards – for best short haul destination. The C&IT Awards celebrate the very best in the world of conferences, meetings and incentives and the ultimate winner will be announced at a ceremony which takes place on Friday, 25 September at the London Hilton.

Also included on the shortlist for awards are:

  • Conference Partners for the ‘Best International Conference’ with ‘One Young World Summit’ 2014.
  • The Convention Centre Dublin for the ‘Best Overseas Convention Centre’dublin
  • Green Light Events/Twitter for the ‘Best use of event technology or social media with #TwitteronTap’

Separately, the Meeting Industry Marketing Awards (MIMA) has selected Fáilte Ireland's  ‘The Event Island’ video as a finalist for the ‘Best Use of Video Marketing’. Aimed at raising the standards of marketing in the meetings and events industry area the MIMA awards will announce their winners on Friday 9th October at the QEII Centre, London.

More Tourists Seek Help

The organisation that supports tourists who get into difficulty, including falling victim to crime, says it has had an increase in the number of cases it has 


dealt with this year compared with last.

The Irish Tourists Assistance Service told the 'Irish Examiner' so far this year it has dealt with 291 cases involving 544 tourists, compared with 278 cases to the same date last year.
