Hostelworld reports ‘Consistent Recovery’

Irish-based online travel agent Hostelworld says it recorded a ‘consistent recovery’ in bookings and revenue last year versus 2019 levels, according to a trading update from the group.hostelworld
The recovery was throughout the year, except for the latter part of 2021, which was impacted by the emergence of the Omicron variant of Covid-19.
As reported in its interim results, 2021 started with a ‘strong’ recovery in Central America and domestic demand in the United States and Australia. In May-June, several southern European destinations opened their borders with ‘strong growth’ over the summer months, the company said.
During the second half of last year, Central America bookings surpassed 2019 levels with southern European destinations' bookings growing to 60-80% of 2019 levels until the latter part of the year where the Omicron variant saw a resumption of travel restrictions in many destinations, the company said.
Overall, 2021 net bookings totalled 1.5 million, which is 21% of 2019 levels.
