K Club drops asking price

The K Club, which was placed on the market last year with a guiding price of €80m has now been re-listed with a lower asking price of €60m.

Owned by Michael Smurfit, it went on sale in June 2018 and was expected to sell for between €70m and €80m. Savills Hotel & Leisure is managing the sale.

Around 100 prospective buyers, including many from Asia and the US, expressed interest in the property within the first month of it going on the market.

MHL completes Fitzpatrick deal

The MHL Hotel Collection has completed the acquisition of three Dublin hotels – the Spencer , the Morgan and the Beacon - from the Fitzpatrick Lifestyle Hotel group. Following these acquisitions MHL will become the largest owner of five and four star hotels (by number of bedrooms) in Dublin City centre.

MHL (previously the John Malone Partnership) involves John Malone (Chairman, Liberty Media and Liberty Global), Paul Higgins and John Lally. All of the Collection’s individual hotels will continue to trade under their existing names and brands, and the rebranding of the hotel group is currently nearing completion. MHL is now the second largest hotel group in Dublin city with over 1,150 five and four star bedrooms, all in prime locations.

Six Irish hotels for 'Worlds'

Six Irish hotels have won country awards at the European round of the World Travel Awards.

The awards were announced at a ceremony in Sardinia last night.

The World Travel Awards, now in their 23rd year,are decided by open vote.

Turkey's Ciragen Palace Kempinski Istanbul was named as Europe's best overall hotel, while the leading hotels in Ireland are :

Keadeen Upgrades Garden

The entrance to the four-star Keadeen Hotel in Newbridge, Co. Kildare has just been awoken by a transformation of its avenue and main road frontage by Caragh Nurseries

The planting has been inspired by some of the shapes and colours that are already in the existing garden, but have been done in a much more modern and contemporary fashion. The linear shape of the avenue paired with circular and conical shapes help draw the eye from the roadway to the elegant entrance of this unique hotel.

Already renowned for its 8 acres of gardens, the entrance to the Keadeen Hotel lay quietly understated, and the O’Loughlin family , felt that the previous entrance didn’t reflect the style of the property as it is now, and wanted to create a contemporary, verdant space that combined the old with the new. Indeed, the property as a whole is moving into the next generation. Established in 1970, the Keadeen is the oldest family-run hotel in County Kildare, originally managed by the late Joe O’Loughlin and his wife Rose, who continues to be at the fore-front of the business, and now their children Anna and Joseph have taken up management roles.

The project, led by proprietor Padraig McGillicuddy now tops the total investment in the property since he took over at the helm in 2003 at the age of 28 to €16 million euro.

Under the leadership of Padraig, a third generation hotelier, the property has evolved and grown to become a 64 bedroom property which now sits on 25 acres of land.
